Through The Lens: Cocotte, Your Favourite Spot in South Kensington

Cocotte, everyone’s favourite neighbourhood restaurant, has opened the doors to its shiny new home in South Kensington, offering up the restaurant’s beloved chicken rotisserie with a few healthy, contemporary twists.

Cocotte South Kensington is the restaurant’s fifth door, with other spots in buzzy locations in Notting Hill, Shoreditch, Parsons Green and Queen’s Park. The South Kensington location, which is literally a stone’s throw away from the station entrance, exudes just the right kind of effortless charm that’s perfect for a long-awaited catchup with a friend or a late brunch accompanied with some bubbles.

Designed by chef-trained Founder Romain Bourrillon, Cocotte’s simple yet delicious menu offers a curated selection of farm-to-table classics, which includes of course, its namesake rotisserie chickens, sauces and delicious side dishes.

Cocotte goes to great lengths to source only the finest quality ingredients, from small, independent family-run farms in France. The menu is crafted using Michelin-quality cooking techniques, nurtured during Romain’s tenure at the prestigious Villa Lauraine and Le Chalet de la Forêt in Brussels and offers a tantalising selection of sauces and sides that perfectly complement the juicy rotisserie chicken on offer.

We especially enjoyed the comforting chicken soup, which was the ideal starter for our slightly chilly early autumn visit to Cocotte. The eight-hour brewed broth tasted wonderfully home-made and had a diverse and well-balanced aroma. The vegan popcorn chicken, served with a delicious and tangy pesto dip, was also an excellent appetiser to lead up to the main event.

No visit to Cocotte would be complete without sampling its namesake Rotisserie chicken, and so we enjoyed a half order, accompanied by the Lentil and Broccolini salad and roasted veggies. The Lentil and Broccolini, served with a refreshing guacamole and soy dressing, was faultless and exceeded all our salad expectations. So much so that it can be enjoyed on its own.

The Rotisserie Chicken, of course, didn’t disappoint and you can easily distinguish the elevated quality of the chicken, which is sourced from a family-owned farm in Pays de la Loire, France. The natural, delicate blend of Herbes de Provence, slow-roasted to absolute perfection on a traditional rotisserie spit offered the perfect bite that had just the right texture and flavour combination.

The ‘show-stopping’ sauces were a culinary sensation too, especially the much-lauded green sauce. It is no wonder Cocotte has won the hearts of London’s most discerning foodies – and its South Kensington location will undoubtedly become a favourite amongst locals too.
