Q&A with General Manager at St. Regis Rome, Giuseppe de Martino

St. Regis Rome, a beautiful hotel that exudes magnificence and an old grandeur of time gone by. Located in one of the city’s most impressive palazzos, St. Regis maintains its historical beauty and art in Rome’s most prime address. The Sybarite spoke with the General Manager at St. Regis Rome, Giuseppe de Martino on why staying at St. Regis Rome is such a unique and memorable experience.

As a first-time guest, how would you describe the St Regis Rome experience? What is a must-try experience that you would recommend as General Manager, during one’s stay here? Especially for first-time guests or re-welcoming guests back.

The St. Regis Rome embodies a timeless place where the past and the great heritage of Cesar Ritz meet a dynamic and eclectic present. In such new scenario thanks to the full restoration of the hotel, The St. Regis Rome has embraced a new era where guest is surrounded by the beauty of the Pierre Yves Rochon’s interior design combined with contemporary art thanks to the exquisite partnership with Galleria Continua.

Fine dining is a large part of traveling to Rome – what would you recommend guests try at the restaurants of St Regis Rome be it food or beverage?

Definitely our restaurant trolley, offering delicacies in a perfect Italian style: caprese, tartare and spaghetti al pomodoro prepared at guest’s table by our Maître. Not to forget our signature cocktails served in a bespoke glasses collection signed by contemporary artists and international designers such as: Federico Pepe, Nico Vascellari and Patricia Urquiola.

Personalisation can make a lasting memory on guest experiences, of which your team of Butlers are there for. What are some of the more unique requests that your team has received and how were they executed?

The St. Regis Butler Service has been a treasured hallmark of the St. Regis experience since the very first guests were welcomed in 1904 when Colonel John Jacob Astor IV, debuted his hotel, The St. Regis New York. His vision, creating “the finest hotel in the world” – exceptional service by an equally exceptional staff. This commitment to excellence was personified by the signature St. Regis Butler, who embodied that spirit then and still does today. Our Butlers team is a point of reference for our guests. Among the many requests received such as organizing an in room private celebration, invitations to Opera premieres, access to exclusive and private Roman palazzos, we love to remember the time when an important guest guided our team over the phone so that his lady’s in room closet would be filled with all her favourite accessorizes and dresses just like home.

What are some of the outstanding characteristics that would ultimately make guests consider a stay at St Regis Rome when choosing a five-star establishment?

Our guests choose The St. Regis Rome because it represents their Roman Residence where to feel at home away from home together with a personalized service, bespoke experiences, dynamic scenario thanks to the many partnerships in fashion, art and cuisine, signature rituals, unique suites portfolio, great hotel heritage and contemporary design.

The divergence between art and history plays an important role in the hotel’s story telling and is visibly reflected in the exterior and interior parts of the building. Can you share a brief story on the renovation and some of the unique aspects regarding art and design that guests may not easily find but play an important role when communicating the St Regis Rome message?

Please find attached the renovation press release in which find design details, main project and bespoke partnerships.
