Royal Salute Coronation Cup
How are you planning on spending this weekend? If you’re in need of a little inspiration, allow The Sybarite to make a suggestion…
Gallop down to Windsor Great Park and watch the England Polo Team take on The Commonwealth at Guards Polo Club, in the hope of retaining the much sought after Coronation Cup trophy – widely seen as one of the stand-out social events of the summer.
Showcasing the very best of this fast paced sport (an enduring alliance between human and horse), Sybarites will get to see some of the England’s leading players competing for the title. Think James Beim (no 3) who, last year, as captain led England to victory over South America. James will joined by Max Charlton (no 2) – aka the recipient of the Garrard Most Valuable Player award on his first appearance in the Royal Salute Coronation Cup. Charlton will no doubt be hoping to impress his peers and win this prize again.
Elsewhere Jack Richardson will wear the number 1 shirt in what will be his England debut, while James Harper will sport the all-important number 4 shirt – and is clearly relishing the opportunity. “I have played for England several times but never for the Coronation Cup and this is the big day. I have been close a couple of times and was reserve last year so I am delighted to have made the cut this year,” says Harper of his forthcoming Coronation Cup debut.
The Diamond Jubilee Trophy match will be played after the showcase Coronation Cup game giving guests an improved match-card, featuring two top quality, afternoon games.
Bottom line? Don’t horse (sorry!) around. If you’ve never made it to the Royal Salute Coronation Cup – the UK’s most prestigious international polo match – that must be righted.
