Leeds Castle – ‘The Loveliest Castle in the World’

Known as ‘the loveliest castle in the world’ and dating back some 900 years, Leeds Castle oozes history, romance and intrigue and is one of my favourite places for family day out. From the adventure playground to the maze and grotto, there is so much to keep the children entertained. Whether they are watching the falconry display, enjoying a trip across the lake or just running around and exploring the beautiful grounds, it’s the perfect place to get them enjoying the British summertime.

This summer the castle is putting on an extravaganza of music, drama and adventure taking place within the grounds. The programme of events starts at the beginning of July, when The Lord Chamberlain’s Men return with their own special brand of all male Shakespeare in the open air, and will run throughout the summer. Events include a 40th anniversary Classical Concert, Pop-up Opera and an open-air performance of Peter Pan.

We are lucky as a family, as Leeds Castle is only a 30 minute drive from home, but with one day not to really long enough to enjoy everything on offer at the Castle, those who live further away can book to stay over in one of the many bed and breakfast rooms, holiday cottages or Medieval Glampsite on the estate.

Leeds Castle is located near Maidstone in Kent just off Junction 8 of the M20 within easy reach of London. Grounds open at 10am daily and the Castle is open from 10.30am. Last admission is 4.30pm and gates close at 6pm from April to September.
