As much as I love fine dining, crisp white table cloths and sparkling glassware - sometimes authenticity and atmosphere are just as good, especially when the food speaks for itself.

Fish Market which is located in the Old Bengal Warehouse, just minutes from Liverpool Street Station, is one of those places. This relaxed venue which is part of the highly acclaimed D & D restaurant group offers an all day dining menu and in summer months there is a terrace at the front of the building for al fresco dining.

The evening I visited was warm, so I chose to sit outside - even though I was tempted by the interior. There is a bar where you can enjoy a drink while choosing from the fresh fish on display. There are hefty metal columns and many hard surfaces and a ducted ceiling. It’s just how you want a fresh seafood restaurant to look - and if you try hard enough you can even imagine you have left central London to dine somewhere on our British shores.

We started with a glass of champagne and some marinated olives as we examined the menu. For starters I opted for the yellowfin tuna tartare with avocado and chilli. The tuna was expertly seasoned and tasted as fresh as could be. To accompany our meal, our attentive waitress recommended a bottle of Satyr Sauvignon Blanc from the wine list, which complemented our food perfectly. For the main course I went for the Soft Shell Crab Burger, with white cabbage and rocket. The crab was delicious and felt such a treat - however I would recommend only ordering this if you have a very large appetite. I left most of the burger bun as I wanted to make sure that I was experiencing the crab in its full glory. My friend ordered the daily special of Tuna, which was fresh from the boat - it was cooked to perfection and looked divine. This restaurant is really about simple fresh fish and seafood at affordable prices. There's even an all day set brunch menu, priced at just £25 for two courses and £30 for three.

I did manage a little dessert - well who can say no to sticky toffee pudding! Definitely not me. The food was exactly what I’d hoped for from a seafood restaurant, fresh and flavoursome and the service was second to none.
