About

Home to the largest art collections in the world, the Vatican consists of 12 rooms and houses important Greek and Roman artworks throughout the centuries. It was founded in the 16th century by Pope Julius II, and contains roughly 70,000 artworks, of which 20,000 are on display. Within the museum you’ll find classical sculptures, tapestries, and paintings by Renaissance greats such as Raphael, Caravaggio, Michelangelo, Bernini, and da Vinci.
