This June join Mary King MBE and ride through literatures much loved English countryside. “Stay off the moors”, were the warnings of Arthur Conan Doyle’s novel The Hound of the Baskervilles, but this experience welcomes riders from all over the world, keen to discover the beauty of the English countryside that sent even Spielberg weak at the knees.
Mary will accompany an exclusive group of guests at the five red star Bovey Castle Hotel, joining you each day on horseback to explore the moors. Typically, you will ride for about four or five hours, with a good stop for lunch — with plentiful opportunities to kick on and enjoy the well-paced adventure. Each evening, Mary will join you for supper at the main restaurant or more relaxed brasserie, where you can delve into conversations about her career, favourite horses, Olympic memories, or just the shared experiences of the day on the moors.
Designed as a unique riding experience set within the changeable landscapes of Dartmoor, guests need to be competent at every pace and across open ground. You can look forward to stunning views, plenty of canters, river crossings and the exclusive company of an Olympic rider. The group will comprise of a maximum of 8 guests, plus Mary King and a guide. Guests can bring their own horse or hire a trusted local mount and relish the thrill of riding at hunting pace across Dartmoor.
Holding an unrivalled position within a 275-acre estate on Dartmoor National Park, Bovey Castle is aspirational in its unparalleled delivery of luxurious hospitality, sumptuous décor and roaring log fires. Upon your return to the hotel, guests can unwind with a swim before supper or indulge oneself in one of the hotel’s soothing spa treatments to revive, relax and restore both body and spirit. Your horse will also enjoy the care and attention of our supplier’s resident yard manager in a yard in the heart of Dartmoor. Both horse and rider will be feeling fit, fresh and ready for all the adventures ahead with the legendary Mary King.
