Got a need for speed? Get your motor running at Ascari Race Resort
Serious car enthusiasts are so passionate about Ascari Race Resort – named after Italian born, two-time Formula 1 World Champion Alberto Ascari – that they might resent the fact that we’re spreading the word. So hush, this is just between Sybarites.
Nestled among southern Spain’s magnificent Andalusian mountains in the province of Malaga, this private racetrack ranks as one of the best places in the world to go racing.
It’s a bold assertion to make but The Sybarite sticks by it. Make no mistake: Dutch businessman and auto aficionado Klaas Zwart (himself no slouch behind the racing wheel) has created petrolhead nirvana.
Boasting 26 corners (13 left hand and 13 right hand corners) and spectacular slopes inspired by some of the world’s most famous corners at tracks such as Brands Hatch and Daytona, the Ascari circuit – which at 5,425 metre is the longest track in Spain – is utterly exhilarating.
Sybarites can drive high-end vehicles – here’s looking at the Lotus, BMW and Radical. Or, if you’d prefer, there’s the opportunity to test your own wheels on the track.
There are various experiences on offer including the chance to learn to drive a Formula 1 car at full speed over two days: day one is about becoming au fait with the track before building up the speed in a Lotus Elise, BMW 325ti Compact, Radical SR3 and Lola F3 car. On the second day Sybarites will start in a Radical SR3, but after that get to the Benetton B197 that took Jean Alesi and Gerhard Berger to fourth and fifth place in the 1997 Formula 1 world championship.
But we’ve kept the best for the end. When you’ve had your fill of F1 (if that’s even possible), retreat to the Ascari Country House. Located a kilometre from the track, the Ascari Country House is the first word in luxury, the last and most of those in between making it the perfect place for the wheel weary to relax.
