Belmond Ltd. is a hotel company and sophisticated adventure travel operator specialising in luxury experiences in some of the world’s most inspiring and enriching destinations. Operated and marketed under the Belmond brand (belmond.com), the company’s collection embraces 47 hotel, river cruise, safari and luxury rail businesses in 24 countries. Let’s rewind back a few years to where it all began in 1976 with the acquisition of the legendary Belmond Hotel Cipriani in Venice. A year later they began collecting the carriages for the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, which subsequently launched in 1982, to whisk intrepid travellers from London to Venice (La Serenissima) in ultimate style and comfort. Since then Belmond has become a pioneer of travel adventures, each with a rich story to tell. Celebrating travel by rail, the collection of sleeper trains journey through Great Britain, Ireland, Europe, Southeast Asia and most recently South America.

The train may be new, but the journey has been years in the making. The Belmond has been welcoming guests in Peru since 1999, curating an unrivalled experience in the Land of the Incas. So, Slide back the compartment door and step into a golden age of travel aboard the Belmond Andean Explorer – the first luxury sleeper train to traverse the landscape of South America. All journeys begin in Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inca Empire, traversing the highest plains of the Andes before arriving at the glassy vistas of Lake Titicaca. The inclusive itinerary of enriching pit stops presents the opportunity to explore islands, rugged beaches, ancient caves and the natural beauty of one of the world’s deepest canyons – At 62-miles long and 2,112ft at its deepest, dare we say Colca Canyon makes its counterpart in Arizona appear rather minúsculo and a little less grand. Whether discovered on foot or via the observation deck the backdrop will literally take your breath away (comes with the territory of travelling up to the dizzying heights of 14,253ft). Finally arriving at the white city of Arequipa, guests reluctantly disembark for the journey home, but not before experiencing the sights and sounds that the city centre has to offer.

Offering a choice of one- or two-night journeys, guests will find solitude in beautiful cabins draped in hand-woven fabrics and Alpaca-style textures. Choose from four cabin styles, each awash in Peruvian accents and a basis of modern amenities. Freshen up in your en-suite bathroom equipped with shower, washbasin and WC, before eating out at one of two beautiful dining carriages -Llama or Muna.

Crisp white tablecloths set the scene for evenings of exquisite fine dining with new-found friends, whilst tables laden with crystal glassware catch the light as you toast your adventure at the bar. Menus are designed by creative chef and ambassador of Peruvian cuisine, Diego Muñoz. His distinctive take on regional classics will take your taste-buds to new culinary heights, drawing influences from the abundant produce found in the Peruvian Andes. Still feeling sociable? Head on over to the Lounge car, where guests are drawn in by the grand piano and the promise of live music and a relaxing nightcap.

From breathtaking exteriors to luxurious interiors, the Belmond Andean Explorer takes South America’s luxury sleeper train experience to the next level – Adventurers your carriage awaits!
