The Arctic Open was first played in 1986 outside Iceland’s second largest city over what world golf’s governing body , The Royal& Ancient Club Of St Andrews, has officially confirmed as the world’s most northerly eighteen hole golf course.
Played at 6549 miles north of the equator and sixty-two from the Arctic Circle, the annual night-time, two round tournament takes place through the night in midsummer ( June 23-5 2022) in the perpetual 24/7 sunlight . You can play golf at 3am in sunglasses. Akureyri has one of the warmest climates in Iceland. On the day of the summer solstice the sun never sets.
The Arctic major’s defending champions are Thorvadlur Makan Sigbjornsson (Stableford), Theostur Astthorsson ( Strokeplay), Anna Jodis Sigurberg and Jon Thor Gunnarssoon ( 55+).
